Finding Images

This guide provides an overview of library resources that support visual research and image searching. Navigate the tabs on the left for help finding:

• Image databases
• Image discovery in magazines, newspapers, and books
• Museum collections
• Context and historical research

• First, try to assess what types of images are appropriate for your project: Photographs, paintings, images of artifacts, historically accurate, inspirational?
• Use images from reputable sources such as image databases, digital collections, books, periodicals, archives, and some websites, to increase your chances of finding accurate and complete identifying information. Think critically about your sources.
• When searching, experiment with various keywords and different ways to expand or filter searches. Try browsing content using the categories provided.
• Conducting context research is a great way to help build additional search terms.
• Remember that research is iterative! Just keep searching, and if you get stuck, reach out to us!

Spaces

• Need a space to study, hold a production meeting, map out a timeline on a large whiteboard, or collaboratively (re)view a performance? Find a space.
• Want to exhibit or perform in the library? Contact Christia (thomasonc@uncsa.edu).

Collections

• Need a book or film that we don't have? We'll do our best to get it for you through Interlibrary Loan.
• Have ideas for titles/areas of study that would benefit our permanent collection? Request a purchase.
