The Catalog
The catalog can be used to locate journal articles. Remember that the default search is for "Library Catalog," so be sure to choose "Articles" from the drop-down menu! For more information, look at the "Search the Collection" tab on the left side of this guide.

Please note that not all available journal articles will appear in the catalog, so also be sure to have a look at the more specialized databases below!
Directory of Open Access Journals
Includes over 80 open access journals about music.
Journal of Seventeenth-Century Music
Peer-reviewed, online, open access forum for scholarly studies of the musical cultures of the 17th century.

JSTOR This link opens in a new window
Includes full text of almost 80 music journals and over 2,500 ebooks on music-related topics. Be aware that the most recent issues of scholarly journals are rarely available through JSTOR.
Music Online: Music Periodicals of the 19th Century This link opens in a new window
Full-text periodicals depicting American musical life from 1838 to the early 1900s through local and international news, reviews, editorials, sheet music, and advertisements.
Music Periodicals Database This link opens in a new window
Provides indexing and abstracts for more than 800 international music periodicals from over 20 countries, plus full text for more than 140 of the indexed journals. Be aware that the most recent issues of scholarly journals are rarely available in this database.
RILM: Abstracts of Music Literature This link opens in a new window
Arguably the most comprehensive database of indexing and abstracts for writings about music, including books, journal articles, critical editions of musical works, sound recordings, and internet resources, mostly published since 1967.

If you find a journal article that is not available through the UNCSA Library, you can easily request it through an Inter-Library Loan. Requests for journal articles are usually processed within a day or two and the PDF will come right to your email.
