Service Overview

We're happy to offer instruction in finding and using information resources, effective search strategies, and the basics of the research process. Sessions can provide general instruction or be tailored to a specific assignment.

UNCSA Librarians design and deliver a range of information literacy and research instruction services, including:

  • Leading synchronous information-literacy class sessions, both online and in person
  • Creating a customized LibGuide for your course or assignment to guide students through the information tools required.
  • Creating asynchronous instructional materials that instructors can share in Canvas or other course platforms

This guide provides an overview of our instruction options, and it explains how to connect with us to determine the most effective format, location, and timing for supporting your students’ research needs. We look forward to collaborating with you.

How to Make Library Instruction Meaningful for Your Students

  • Collaborate with an instruction librarian to design a purposeful, well-structured assignment.

  • Share a detailed description of the research students will be conducting and provide any related assignments ahead of time.

  • Schedule the library session to align with a current project that requires students to use library resources.

  • Attend the session with your students to underscore its importance and reinforce key points introduced by the librarian.
