The Library’s Access Services Department is responsible for the circulation of all non-music materials - books, monographs and visual media – whether for personal, in-class, course reserves or interlibrary loan use. We maintain the stacks, in Library of Congress (LC) classification order, on the main and lower floors of the library. We produce the library’s overdue notices and billing statements, working closely with Student Accounts to maintain up-to-date records. We register all patrons, process the purchase of public patron library cards, and adjust existing records as needed. We, along with Campus Police, provide for the security of the library – patrons, materials and building - through visual and electronic monitoring, opening and closing of the library building, and enforcement of library rules and policies.
Our intent is to produce a structure and environment in which creative and artistic impulses may happily, though quietly, collide with intellectual exploration. The incomparable collections of Semans Library make that possible. Welcome, and as always, ask – you never know!
